Burnt Offerings Review

Review: Burnt Offerings

Director: Dan Curtis

Here’s a haunted house movie that was done right. I think a large part of that was due to the acting (although the writing, directing, and score deserves some credit). The hearse driver was creepy as hell, but it was Oliver Reed’s terrified reaction that gives those scenes the intensity. I was hesitant to pick this one up with its PG rating, but it actually had a fairly horrific scene or two in it. I keep forgetting the ratings system worked a little bit different pre-80s. Anyway this flick had some memorable scenes, and in some ways I think it was superior to the Shining. The dvd was only $10.
