Artist: Danzig
ok, i for one am a danzig fan... and not just a casual fan... when it comes to misfits, samhain, or danzig, im one of those sick rabid fanboy types..
i cant help it... most music just doesnt really do anything for me... but he hasnt let me down yet...
with that said, i must admit that i have been a little upset with the vocal mix on the post def american releases... on 5, 6, and 7 the vocals seemed somewhat burried in the mix... and the orgional attraction to glenns music was for me, his voice...
there were always songs that showcased the fact that he still had an amazing voice... ashes off 5 - lillin from 6 - coldest sun from 7..... but the overall albums seemed to let the music overpower those mighty vocals..
however with the new release CIRCLE OF SNAKES.... i gave it a spin and the first two songs (while both amazing songs) still found the vocals very low in the mix... but then a suprising thing happend... on the 3rd song (1000 devils reign) there were those good old loud clear vocals that hadnt been heard since danzig 4p !!!
and to my very happy suprise, the voice stays in the front for the ENTIRE REST OF THE ALBUM!
so right there i am totally happy with this release -
now on to the disk itself:
circle of snakes has been plugged as a "return to form" and it is in a way.. but not to the danzig 1 through 4 form that most people expect -
this album, at least to me, is like a modern day SAMHAIN album -
it sounds exactly like something you would expect to follow FINAL DECENT in the samhain catalouge.....
its got that total dark samhain vibe -
everything feels alot more REAL than it has in years -
this disk takes me back to when i was like 12 years old and worshipped samhain...
(samhain still remain the greatest band of all time to me)
i wont go in to song for song -
just get this fucker -
its just damn good-
