Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals Review

Review: Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals

Director: Joe D'Amato

It's the age old question, should porn be mixed with horror? Probably not in this case. I like to look at it this way, if violence or sex helps serve the purpose of the story than use it and don't hold back. But if the story is just a back-drop for it, then it sucks all the power out; it makes it campy. I like camp, but it can only go so far. That's how I feel about this one, there were some nice little gore scenes, some decent sex scenes (the chick playing Emanuelle looks damn hot), but it all seemed really out of place. Plus, using cannibals as the theme can be hard to pull off, I don't think they really have the kind of inherint symbolism as other common horror monsters - zombies, vampires, frankenstein, etc. So far Cannibal Holocaust is the only one I can really get into.
