Director: Todd Solondz
I've had an eye out for this movie when I go to rental places, but never had much luck finding it. It's one of those "controversial and disturbing" kind of movies that your average place doesn't want to carry. It was pretty good, some memorable scenes. Every single character in the film is either depressed or fucked up in some way. You sort of go back in forth between being sickened by them and pitying them. Happiness was a bit slow at times, but it had a hell of an ending. Overall, I give it 7 out of 10 on the "Gummo" scale.
There was one scene in particular I found interesting, a writer is thinking about what a hack she is. She thinks her writing is exploitative crap while others consider it high art. I wonder if Solondz thinks of his own work in this way. He has won plenty of awards for this stuff.
