House of 1000 Corpses Review

Review: House of 1000 Corpses

Director: Rob Zombie

I couldn't believe that this movie wasn't posted on here yet when I was scanning the reviews...so i had to throw in my 2 cents.
"House of 1000 Corpses" (the title an homage to 1974's "House of Seven Corpses") has a premise that is just like any other slasher film...mostly basing itself on the Texas Chainsaw series where a group of oblivious stoner teens find themeslves lost in the backwoods of some hick town, and low and behold they happen to stumble across the family of in-bred homicidal maniacs. Now, I am not meaning to tear down this movie at all...that is completely not what I meant at all. This movie was fantastic in the fact that it took the same boring slasher story and gave it a look and feel that actually made you believe that everyone involved was just plain crazy. Directed by Rob Zombie (who, in case you were wondering, also directs most of his own videos...)making his debut for the big screen, the film has the feel of a 50's horror movie, in that not only is it shot to look like the movie is on Mini-DV film, but the colors are purposely washed out or darkened to make it seem more eerie. Mostly, the movie is played for laughs I feel, following Sid Haig playing Captain Stubbing the clown...its just plain hysterical. Also...if you happen to rent or buy this on DVD, check out the extras in the bonus section. They had me rolling for hours.
