Director: Patty Jenkins
How a movie with a Charlize Theron/Christina Ricci love scene would somehow slip by me until released to video is beyond me. Normally I'd be the first in line for something like that, must be getting old. titillating Hollywood a-list lesbian love scenes aside, this was a dark movie based on a true story about a hooker who killed several of her clients. Charlize Theron won an oscar for her role. It was strange, at some points I felt she did a great job, others I didn't think the character was very believable at all. Scenes where she's either reacting to violence or creating the violence are great. It's the scenes where she's just carrying on a conversation that I can't accept the character as being real. Although, maybe that's the point. The character didn't really have an identity for herself, so she'd put up a phony show when talking to others. If that's the case, maybe Theron does deserve all the hype. For the role she gained a bunch of weight and had make-up and fake teeth. Aside from her lips, she looked like a completely different person. People are making comparisons to DeNiro in Raging Bull, I think that's pushing it.
