Director: Umberto Lenzi
Umberto Lenzi (of Cannibal Ferox fame) directed this zombie flick. The thing I liked about this one was that the zombies weren't the typical slow-moving slow-thinking variety. These zombies came at you full speed, they knew how to use guns, and they often worked together. Five years later, Return of the Living Dead takes a similar approach to the zombie mythology. Nightmare City takes after Romero's stuff like Dawn of the Dead and The Crazies rather than the Fulci-style. Overall it was pretty good: fast paced, chaotic, plenty of gore. But the environmental angle was lame, and the so was the ending. Lenzi clearly didn't know how he wanted to end it, so he did the dumbest thing possible. Have you ever beat a video game where instead of it having a wicked ending, it just starts you over at the beginning? Doesn't that just piss you off?
