Director: Michael Powell
This might be the first movie that explores someone filming their murders. It's a theme that's been done and redone many times (see the Last House on Dead End Street review & Man Bites Dog review). After seeing the theme in so many movies, even the original might seem cliched to some if just watching it for the first time. Take into consideration though this was made in 1960, before this kind of thing was acceptable in movies. Peeping Tom basically ended Michael Powell's career. It wasn't till Psycho came out a couple months later that people began to accept such brutal subject matter from mainstream films. Beyond the highly influential theme, Peeping Tom also had great directing, acting, and camera work. So its still a very good movie to watch nearly 50 years after it was made.
