Director: Jesus Franco
Succubus a.k.a. "Necronomicon Geträumte Sünden" is one of the many films by Jesus Franco. This is the first one by Franco I've gotten the chance to see. The thing that struck me about this movie is that its a sleazy exploitation but also a pretentious art movie. It's a combination I'm not quite used too, but a combination that worked. There were plenty of bizarre scenes to keep my eyes glued to the screen. The dreamlike kills were especially good. And the dialogue was certainly interesting. It seems like foreign movies that are already supposed to be illogical are given a boost since the translation often adds an extra bit of confusion. I really enjoyed Succubus, so I suppose it’s finally time to pick up Vampiros Lesbos and some other Franco flicks.
