Director: Takashi Shimizu
I reviewed the orignal Japanese version of this the other day (see Ju-on), so I am not going to hit the plot of this one.
I must say that I hate the way that good foreign movies are completely changed when re-made, just to make them more palatable to Americans. The character that Sarah Michelle-Gellar plays in this film WASN'T EVEN IN THE JAPANESE VERSION. It was completely made up for this version to "better explain" things (for idiot American audiences, basically). The sad thing is that the orignal isn't even hard to follow.
I give it some credit, as it does have some of the same feel as the orignal, but that would probably have to do with the director being the same.
Not as good a remake as The Ring, but watchable. Wait for video/DVD if you can, because the "scares" will work just as well at home on your 19" TV as it would in the theatre.
