The Terror Review

Review: The Terror

Director: Roger Corman

I've been on a Roger Corman kick lately, you can get his movies real cheap. This one was part of a 4-movie set I picked up at walmart for $5. The transfer wasn't too good, but the price was right. Corman cranked this out right after The Raven using the same sets. The story is pretty corny but still decent, the pacing is a bit slow, and the acting was good except it was impossible to believe Jack Nicholson as a french officer. There is a simple special effect they often use that I really like, fucking with the film so things sort of turn negative - looks creepy. "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" does it best with the banshee scenes. wicked effect, a little cheezy, but not half as cheezy as the effect Scorsese kept using on his remake of Cape Fear.
