The Wicker Man Review

Review: The Wicker Man

Director: Robin Hardy

I knew almost nothing about this movie when I originally bought it, but I was sold on the packaging. This special edition DVD comes in a wood case with a very cool image of the Wicker Man burnt onto it. I wish more DVD manufacturers would get as creative. The movie itself was like nothing I’d ever seen. I still can't get the image of Christopher Lee in drag (singing and dancing) out of my head, or the nude woman (with hot butt-double) doing the “slap the wall” dance. I’d say nearly every scene and piece of dialogue is something unique and memorable. The Wicker Man’s plot is about a cop investigating a missing girl on a small island that happens to celebrate ancient pagan gods. The prude cop is both taunted and appalled by the islanders and their religion (which embraces sex, quite the opposite of Christianity). It builds up to an amazing and horrific climax that gets better and better each time you watch it. The limited edition comes with the original cut, and a good documentary.
