Director: Roger Corman
This was the last of Roger Corman's Poe movies, and in my opinion one of the best. Corman often created an ominous mood with his Poe series, but this one really broods with it. There were moments that actually gave me the chills - a rare thing nowadays. The writing was great, the source and the adaptation. I loved Ligeia's character, someone whose will is so strong she refuses to die. Her will encompasses everything. Vincent Price does an amazing performance, as always. Elizabeth Shepherd did a good job playing the two female characters. The DVD of this has a great commentary by Roger Corman. Considering he shot this 40 years ago, he has a great memory of pretty much each shot. Some of these shots I've seen paid tribute to in other movies, I think maybe Raimi may have been influenced. The disk is also a Price double feature - there can never be to many of those.
