Tromeo and Juliet Review

Review: Tromeo and Juliet

Director: Lloyd Kaufman

With my taste in movies, you’d think I’d be a Troma fan. Truth is, I tend to give most Troma flicks the cold-shoulder. I don’t dislike them, I just think there are a lot better low budget exploitation flicks out there. So I just now got around to watching Tromeo and Juliet, and surprisingly it was really good. It’s got to be the most entertaining Shakespeare adaptations I’ve seen. There were plenty of hilarious kill scenes, some great off-beat characters, but I think the real star was the writing. It was co-penned by James Gunn who went on to write the new Dawn of the Dead (see the review). I now see the links between this and scenes like the birth and chainsaw accident in DOTD – same sense of humor. Tromeo and Juliet was great – just try to look past the shameless plugs for other Troma flicks littered throughout.

Haha...I too, am not a massive Troma fan, and usually enjoy their releases more than actual Troma made films...but this movie was indeed very funny, and totally watchable as compared to, say, Redneck Zombies.
