Director: David Cronenberg
Cronenberg's movies may lack in a few departments, but they more than make up for that with an abundance of imagination. He takes a symbolic idea and gives it a physical presence. Videodrome questions how mass media can govern reality and perception through the use of technology (I think that someday a total immersion medium will take that idea to a whole new level). Cronenberg doesn't really explain his intentions through his films, when he does he'll purposely contradict and confuse these explanations leaving a variety of ideas to consider. I think Videodrome's open-ended plot and use of surrealistic imagery (brought to life by Rick Baker) is quite effective, however it's not half as powerful as David Lynch's Ereaserhead. Still, I basically love any movie that makes me think.
